Ogun: Agbdo,Lemode-Ijoko Roads Beg For Repair

-Residents Groan In Pain

Roads in the Agbado axis of Ogun state are in a total state of disrepair. This has for some years subjected residents and those in its environs to unbearable pain.

Few years ago, there was an effort towards fixing the roads, specifically from Agbado inward Lemode/Ijoko, Ogba Ayo, to link Sango. In what looked like pointed attempt by the authorities to reconstruct the impassable roads, heavy earth-moving machinery was rolled out, properties on both sides of the road from Agbado to Lemode/Ijoko were demolished to make room for expansion. 

However, work stopped with the gradual removal of the tractors, bulldozers and other equipment from the site which had been worsened by abandoned reconstruction activities.

Our reporter who recently visited the area, observed that portion of the road, stretching from Agbado to Lemode/Ijoko-Ogba-Ayo and Robiyan has completely collapsed such that vehicles now embark on series of divert their routes to avoid heavy muds and soggy spots.

As many car owners have resorted to parking their vehicles at home to board commercial buses for fear of exposing them to damages occasioned by the bad roads, the commercial vehicle operators capitalise on the situation to charge cut-throat fares from commuters.

Due to the deplorable condition of the roads, distances that used to attract fares ranging from =N=100.00, =N=150.00, to =N=200.00 have increased by more than 100%, making life for the residents unbearable.

Cost of goods and services continue to rise in the area as movement of foodstuffs and other commodities from outside is stalled by the bad roads.

Residents who spoke with our reporter, were in unison on their position, as they pleaded with the Ogun State and Federal Governments to urgently come to their aid and fix the failed roads.

They also stated that only God could make the powers-that-be to consider coming to their rescue since they appeared not interested in addressing the debilitating condition of the roads.
