The Progressive Consolidation Group, PCG, has denied reports claiming that Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has opened a campaign office in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. According to a statement by publicity secretary of the group, Barrister Emmanuel Pippa, the office referred to belongs to support groups rooting for the vice president to be the next president of Nigeria in 2023.
Part of the statement read:“Our attention has just been brought to a publication which alleges that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has opened a campaign office in Abuja ahead of the 2023 elections. The group said there is a need for clarification on its mandate in line with the support for the vice president’s ambition to lead Nigeria in 2023. Noting that their administrative office is located in the Wuse area of Abuja, the group said the vice president is yet to be briefed on the activities of the project which includes coordination of youth and women across the country.
The group noted that party chieftains will lead the real campaign when the time comes in due course. The statement added: “Being a heartbeat away from the number one job, there are countless APC members and even, non-partisan citizens across the federation who are pushing for Professor Yemi Osinbajo to succeed or highly revered President Buhari, solely in the interest of the nation.
“We are convinced that Osinbajo’s level of familiarity with the vision, achievements, and challenges being handled by President Buhari is second to none and that such insight would enable a new APC administration to hit the ground running in 2023. “We anticipate that various new and existing pro-Osinbajo platforms will become part of the group to which their focus appears more relevant.”
